Charging connector for electric vehicles with overmoulding
Process

Whether as strain relief on connectors, as protection against moisture for electronic assemblies or as a decorative enhancement: overmoulding parts with plastic serves many purposes and usually fulfils several of these functions at once. We overmould metal inserts with different plastics and with reliable quality in terms of function and surface.

The overmoulding of parts or assemblies with plastic offers a reliable multiple function: the overmoulding of a part replaces its housing or enclosure with a cover. This protects the part from external influences such as moisture, light or gas as well as the environment, for example from electric current. However, overmoulding often also has a decorative function: not only can different haptics be achieved for a part during overmoulding, but a wide variety of colours and surface qualities are also possible. A particular challenge in overmoulding is always to tightly overmould the areas where, for example, contacts or other elements of the component are left exposed. In order to prevent a capillary effect between the exposed part and the overmoulding, it is important to select the right material and the correct processing parameters – benefit from our experience here!

Fields of application:

  • Enclosure of electronic devices
  • Plug connections for power or signals
  • Mechanical operating parts, e.g. levers or buttons
  • Maintenance-free and non-moving assemblies

The most important advantages of overmoulding inserts at a glance

  • Protection of a part or assembly against mechanical stress, e.g. connectors, kink protection for cables, etc.
  • Protection against external influences such as liquids, gases or light
  • Final design
  • Colour design
