The challenge

Piston for actuator systems for clutch and gearbox actuation – metal replacement of a ground and honed metal piston to reduce costs through extremely reduced reworking, very high demands on surface hardness and surface quality with maximum surface defects of 5 µm on the entire running surface inside and outside, extreme demands on quality assurance, diameter tolerances in the hundredths of a millimetre range, oil resistance.

The solution

The above requirements can be met by using a suitable thermoset material. Very high mechanical strength and chemical resistance, very tight tolerances and high dimensional stability with different wall thicknesses can be achieved thanks to the excellent shrinkage and warpage behaviour of thermosets.
